DIATO-OVU

Diatom-based, digitally assisted, ovulation-specific rapid test using recombinant antibodies for fertility diagnostics

The project aims at a sustainable, animal-free ovulation test that a smartphone can read. The antibody fragments it needs are produced not in animals but in diatoms. In a lateral-flow format they detect LH and E3G, the biomarkers that mark the fertile window. The phone does the reading: its camera captures the test and control lines and an algorithm quantifies them. No disposable electronic reader is required — and therefore no electronic waste.

Our contribution

Liftric is responsible for the digital part of the project: the smartphone app that interprets the result and accompanies the cycle. Measurements repeated across a cycle are stored and modelled to recognise hormonal patterns and narrow the fertile window individually. Because the rapid test and its app reach the market as a medical device, we develop the software along IEC 62304 and ISO 13485 from the outset.
